WHAT NEEDS TO CHANGE?

Add a location, replace a device or find a fault.

Put power where you need it

A desk, television or kitchen appliance may have moved beyond the existing outlets. We review the circuit and possible route before adding a new location.

Replace worn or unsuitable devices

Loose receptacles, damaged switches and outdated controls may need replacement. The condition of the box and wiring also matters.

Investigate a device that stopped working

A dead outlet or a switch that behaves differently can be a symptom of a circuit problem. We assess the cause before treating the visible device as the only fault.

START WITH THE ROOM

Show us where the furniture and equipment will go.

An extra outlet helps most when it works with the way you use the room. Share the desk, cabinet or appliance layout so the location is accessible and cords do not have to cross a doorway or walkway.

New wiring may need access through walls, an attic or a crawlspace. Surface-mounted routes can be an option in some spaces. We discuss the practical choices and any finish repairs before the installation is agreed.

CHOOSE THE DEVICE FOR THE JOB

Match the device to the wiring and the equipment.

OptionWhat to review
Standard or USB receptacleCircuit suitability, box space, device rating and the equipment you intend to connect.
GFCI protectionLocation requirements, existing circuit protection and the reason for any trips or reset failures.
DimmerCompatibility with the specific lamps or LED driver, intended load and desired control locations.
Smart switchWiring arrangement, box space, device requirements and how normal switching will work.
Outdoor outletWeather exposure, suitable equipment and the protection required for the location.

A new device is selected to suit the installation. Changing a faceplate or fitting a three-slot receptacle does not create an equipment ground.

WHEN THE CIRCUIT NEEDS ATTENTION

An extra outlet does not add electrical capacity.

If a circuit is already carrying too much equipment, adding another place to plug in will not fix the load problem. Some appliances need a dedicated circuit, and new demand may call for a wider assessment.

The same applies when a protective device repeatedly trips. The cause may be the connected equipment, a wiring fault or the device itself. We check what is happening before choosing a repair.

MAKE THE VISIT PRODUCTIVE

Send a device list before the appointment.

Several small electrical jobs can often be discussed together, but we need to know what they involve before scheduling.

  • Count the locations

List which outlets or switches need attention and in which rooms. Mark whether each is an existing device or a new location.

  • Describe the issue

For a repair, explain what happens and whether it affects other devices. Mention recent changes to lamps, appliances or controls.

  • Share selected product models

If you have bought dimmers or smart switches, send the model numbers. Compatibility should be reviewed before the visit.

  • Identify access and finishes

Tell us about cabinetry, tile, plaster or other surfaces around the work. The quote should clarify wiring routes and any patching or painting responsibilities.

Before you book

Outlets, switches and compatibility.

Here are a few details to help you plan the work. Call us if your property or equipment needs a closer look.

Can you replace two-prong outlets with grounded outlets?

We first assess the circuit and its grounding arrangement. A three-slot receptacle alone does not add a ground. We explain the suitable options and any required labeling or circuit changes for that installation.

Why will my GFCI outlet not reset?

There may be a loss of supply, a fault on the protected circuit or a problem with the device. We diagnose the cause rather than bypass the protection or assume replacement will resolve it.

Can I use any dimmer with LED lights?

No. The dimmer, lamps or driver need to be compatible. Tell us the exact fixture or lamp model and whether the light is controlled from more than one location.

Do smart switches need new wiring?

Some can work with the existing arrangement; others have wiring or connection requirements the current box does not meet. We review the product and installation before recommending it.

Can you add an outlet without opening the wall?

Sometimes an accessible route or a suitable surface-mounted installation is available. The room construction and desired location determine the options. We discuss any openings and finish work before the job.
