LOOK AT THE ROOM FIRST

Light the task, then the rest of the space.

The light needed to prepare food is different from the light wanted over a dining table. We discuss the activities in each part of the room before deciding how many fixtures or control zones make sense.

Placement matters as much as brightness. A row of ceiling lights can leave a work surface in shadow or put glare on a screen. The furniture and cabinet layout helps us place the light where it will be useful.

  • Work surfaces and reading areas
  • Screens, reflective finishes and sightlines
  • How the room is used at different times

BUILD THE LIGHTING AROUND THE ROOM

Different fixtures do different jobs.

Recessed ceiling lighting

Useful for general coverage or selected areas, with layout and beam direction considered around ceiling height, room shape and obstructions.

Pendants, sconces and chandeliers

The fixture’s scale, weight and mounting requirements affect the installation. We review the selected product and existing support before replacing it.

Under-cabinet and task lighting

A dedicated light source can illuminate counters or work areas without relying on the ceiling fixtures. Wiring routes and the location of drivers or controls need planning.

Replacement and LED upgrades

A new fixture or lamp can change brightness and light quality. We check compatibility with the existing wiring and controls before assuming it is a direct replacement.

TWO DIFFERENT INSTALLATION SCOPES

Replacing a light and adding a new one involve different work.

Use an existing location

The assessment covers the existing box, support, wiring and switch arrangement. The chosen fixture must suit those conditions or the scope must include the necessary changes.

  • Check product dimensions and weight
  • Review the existing support and box
  • Confirm control compatibility

Create new lighting locations

New wiring, switching and ceiling openings may be needed. Access above the room and the finish material affect the route and the restoration afterward.

  • Plan fixture locations before cutting
  • Review attic or ceiling access
  • Define patching and painting responsibilities

MAKE THE ROOM EASY TO USE

Choose the controls at the same time as the lights.

A compatible dimmer can make one room useful for several activities. Separate control zones may be better when the kitchen counter, dining table and general lighting need different levels.

We check the lamps or LED drivers against the selected controls. Smart switching also needs a suitable wiring arrangement and a plan for ordinary day-to-day use. We review those details before installation.

BEFORE ORDERING FIXTURES

Confirm the details that can change the installation.

Fixture specification

Send model numbers, dimensions and mounting instructions. Heavy fixtures, unusual canopies or separate drivers can need additional planning.

Ceiling and wall construction

Sloped ceilings, concrete, plaster or limited overhead access can change the route and labor. Photos and plans help identify those conditions early.

Existing controls and circuits

Tell us about current dimmers, multiple switch locations or any flickering. An existing fault may need diagnosis before the lighting upgrade.

Finishing and testing

The scope should identify surface restoration and include checking the installed fixtures and controls. We explain the normal operation of any new control arrangement.

Before you book

Before the new lights go in.

Here are a few details to help you plan the work. Call us if your property or equipment needs a closer look.

How many recessed lights does a room need?

That depends on the room, ceiling height, fixture output and beam pattern, and how the space is used. We consider the layout and task lighting instead of using a fixed number of fixtures for every room.

Can you install fixtures I have purchased?

Yes, if they are suitable for the location and installation. Share the specifications before the appointment so support, electrical connections and control compatibility can be reviewed.

Will new LED lights work with my existing dimmer?

Possibly. The exact lamp or driver and dimmer combination matters. Buzzing, flickering or poor dimming may require a compatible control or a different lighting choice.

Can lighting be added without attic access?

There may be routes through the ceiling or walls, or suitable surface-mounted alternatives. We assess the construction and discuss any openings and restoration before quoting the work.

Can you help with lighting in a shop or office?

Yes. We review the activities, layout, existing circuits and operating schedule. Tell us which areas need better coverage and whether the work must be coordinated around an occupied business.
